The Arran Amarone Cask Finish is a pleasant enough expression that showcases the distillery's willingness to experiment with wine cask finishes. The Amarone influence brings forward cherry and red berry notes alongside the expected honey and vanilla from the Arran spirit. We found it easy drinking - it does what it sets out to do with the wine cask adding a fruity dimension. However, it doesn't quite achieve greatness. The wine finish, while noticeable, feels somewhat light and doesn't fully integrate with the base spirit, leaving it a bit one-dimensional. At $125, it's in an awkward price bracket where you're paying a premium for the special cask finish, but the end result feels more like a curiosity than a must-have bottle. It's good, not great - a solid choice if you're exploring wine-finished malts or looking for something fruit-forward and easy to drink.
