Review
This is a very approachable, fruit-driven whisky matured in American oak, ex-bourbon casks, with plenty of peach and caramel that will appeal to beginners, while those with a more seasoned palette might find themselves wanting a bit more depth. The nose leads with buttery maple syrup, vanilla and a touch of gingerbread spice, carrying through nicely onto the palate where the sweet peach and caramel sit alongside a gentle spice mingling with the malt. We tried this one on a warm sunny day out on the deck and it suited the occasion perfectly, coming across as a light and easy sipper rather than something to sit and contemplate. It's well balanced and enjoyable, with a short but intense peppery spice finish that settles into mellow vanilla wood, but there's no real complexity or standout moment to elevate it further. If you're in Australia, it's worth hunting down as the price is very attractive for what you get, making it a great present or a reliable warm weather sipper. We'd recommend everyone keep a Hellyers Road on hand for unexpected guests too - they'll definitely be back for a second dram.
