Believe it or not, we had never tried Chivas Regal until many years into our whisky journey - and we only did because someone bought it for us as a gift. We were expecting something that could only be mixed with coke but we were pleasantly surprised by its rich, tropical and fruity character. Part of the blend is finished in rum casks, and you can taste it, with golden syrup, caramel and jammy apricot all coming through. It isn't the most complex dram we've tried, but it's soft, sweet and easy to like, and at around $70 it's good value. We could see this working really well in summer with friends over desserts watching the sunset. It picked up Silver with 93 points at the IWSC in 2022, so it clearly has plenty of fans beyond us.

If you like the sweet, fruity, and spicy jam flavours - this is a great whisky to enjoy with friends. It's also a good step up for anyone who's only ever had Chivas with coke and wants to see what a blend can do neat, or a rum drinker curious about whisky.
